There are many ways to spend a vacation and it’s possible to divide a vacation into two types, each having its own advantages and disadvantages. For the sake of this article, let’s divide them into traveling and vacationing. Though they may seem the same, in this case they represent two different things. Let’s have a look at some characteristics differing them.
Going on holidays is relaxing, usually consisting of a travel agency do all the booking for you and once booked, all you need to do is pack and away you go. Agencies organizes your transfers, accommodation, catering, trips, activities, rentals, wellness, personal porter or anything else you pay for. The word comfort describes vacationing the best. It is relaxing. According to their knowledge and experiences, agencies provide the best of what the destination can offer.
On the other hand, having someone else to plan your vacation can result in disappointment. Holiday packages and tours are designed to fit larger groups of people and mostly lack personal approach unless you pay a significant amount of money. Simple holiday packages to less distant destinations tend to be cheaper than self-organized travel of the same type. But there is a reason for such price: mass character. In order to be profitable, agencies plan and organize the same services to many people and continue the treadmill cycle for the whole season. Lastly it is safe, agency organized vacation packages are usually planned within high tourist areas and these areas are, for the most part, very safe.
Traveling means preparing and organizing everything on your own. As an independent traveler you are responsible for all components of your vacation. You have to plan every detail of your travels, or be faced with challenges and improvising as you go. Once you’ve chosen a destination, it is important to do your research. The better prepared you are, the less difficulties, problem solving, and unexpected surprises you’ll face. Ask yourself why you want to go there, because this can help with further decisions such as when is the best time to go, how to get there, what to see and do, getting around, where and many other important decisions.
Travelling on your own is tough but exciting. The good thing about it is that you can customize it to how you want. When travelling on your own, you have better chance to really experience the destination, come in contact with the locals, eat their food, buy their products, and maybe even get invited for dinner. You are experiencing and living the place rather than observing it from the A/C bus or surrounded by crowds of other tourists. On the other hand, travelers are more exposed to local culture as well as the local dangers.
The decision on how to spend your vacation depends on your tastes and preferences. Travelling is a great learning experience and whether you decide on vacationing or travelling, it is the one thing you buy that makes you richer. How you decide to spend it is up to you.
